| About Meetafamily |
Meetafamily was conceived to make it easier for you or your family, to meet any other family who share similar leisure interests and hobbies. This would help you to meet local people if you move to a new home - or it could just be great fun to enlarge your group of friends. |
You can ask to contact meetafamily members nearby, or anywhere in the world - all you need to do is become a member yourself.
Using the Meetafamily Service. |
To find new friends, click on the link “Find a Family by choosing a town” (in the Navigation Menu), or click on the link which says “click here” near the bottom of the meetafamily Home page. Look up your local town or village and if no other family has joined there yet, why not be the first? Once your “Family Special Page” is up on our website, other families may see your link and be happy to contact you.
You can have your family link in up to eight local towns or villages including your home town or village, but can ask to contact another meetafamily member anywhere in the world!
To have your own Family Special Page on our website, there are two simple stages involved: 1, Registration (so you can see other families’ Special Pages); and 2, Joining as a Full Member (both are free). All you have to do to start the process is click on a “Join Meetafamily” button at the bottom of a page, or the link in the Navigation Menu.
On the page that comes up, you then click the “Register” link. This asks you to choose your country and select your home town or village from our list, then takes you to a page where you can quickly complete your registration.
At this point an email is sent to you confirming your username and password etc. This email also has a link back to the meetafamily website, so that you can sign in and we can validate your email address. Now you can sign in at any time to view a member’s Family Special Page in any town or village in any country, update your registration details, or join meetafamily as a full member yourself.
In the second and final part of the process towards having your own Family Special Page, you click a “Join Meetafamily” link again, but this time you sign in and it takes you to your address details (which you can update if necessary), on a page with a “Continue” button at the bottom.
When you click this button, it will take you to the section where you simply add your family leisure interests and other useful information, so families who see your Special Page can decide if it would be fun to meet you. You can also submit a personal message to add to your Family Special Page, perhaps describing a favourite hobby or interest in further detail, or saying that your child would like a pen friend in another country, or anything you like (but do not sign it). You can return later to add a family picture or two.
When you have done this, any family (Family1) wishing to meet you, can click the “Meet this family” button at the bottom of your Family Special Page. You will then receive an email message (after they have paid the small meeting request charge), asking if you (Family2), would like to contact them in return. On this message will be a link to their own Family Special Page, so you can look at their interests, etc.
If you wish to contact Family1 in return, just click the payment link on the same email (we take the same small charge as for Family1), after which we will send you their email address. Your own email address will be sent to Family1 at the same time. Email addresses will only be sent out if both families wish to meet.
If you (Family2), do not wish to meet Family1 at this time, a credit is allocated to Family1, so they can try to contact a different family, or come back and try you again at another time.
If you’ve ever lived in a large city, you will know how hard it is to get to know new people – let alone another family. It seems that the more people there are in one place, the tighter they keep to themselves, which is probably quite natural and no doubt has something to do with our survival instincts.
Another example of this is when your child has a special school friend. Do you necessarily get on well with his or her parents? Sometimes this is the case, but more often than not you only have a superficial friendship with other parents, as a result of meeting them on the school run, or during the dropping off or collection of children from your houses, etc.
This is fine as far as it goes, but it is very likely that there is a family not too far away that you would all get on with brilliantly. The parents will probably share many of your interests and the children will possibly get on really well together too. These friendly families really are out there of course, but how do you find them?
Meetafamily should help you to find new friends sooner rather than later, even if you don’t see anyone in your town or village with the same interests straight away. However, if another family has decided it would be fun to become members of meetafamily and have their own Family Special Page, showing their interests and various other details, they may be happy to meet you whatever your interests.
